On November 4, 2008, Johnson County voters will be asked to throw out our current and well-tested selection system where judges are selected based on merit, experience and qualifications and instead install a partisan election system that will turn every judge into just another politician, making promises and taking money like any other politician.
Ask yourself, do you want judges who are fair and impartial and whose decisions are based on upholding the constitution and the facts of each case and the law?
Or do you want judges who are the best politicians, the best fundraisers, with the best bumper sticker slogans, and who make important decisions by looking over their shoulders to the special interest groups who got them elected?
Johnson Countians for Justice is a non-partisan committee dedicated to keeping special interest politics out of our courts. We welcome you to this important debate over the future of justice in Johnson County.
For generations, citizens of Johnson County have enjoyed quality, competent and objective justice, administered by judges selected on their individual merit and who are reviewed by the voters every two years. That honorable system is being attacked by special interest groups from outside and inside Johnson County who want to turn our justice system into another partisan political battleground, where money, cronyism and political purity tests are the difference between winning and losing.
We ask first, for your intelligent study of this issue. And second, for your support and help in keeping Johnson County courts a place where everyone can receive a fair and impartial hearing and where individual rights and the Constitution are upheld.
